The HomeRight EZ Twist PaintStick Roller System- the Easy Way to Paint a Room Yourself

I am a professional home remodeler and have been for over 35 years. When I take on home remodeling projects for customers, we do the complete job from the foundation to the final painting. Over the years I have painted many houses and additions myself, and of course I have also done all of the painting on my own homes as well.

In the beginning of the year my wife Karen had mentioned that she would like to change the color of our master bedroom and asked me to paint it when I had some time. This year I have been very busy with my regular jobs and haven't had any free time to do much work around my own house. Summer was half way over and Karen reminded me again about the painting the room. Karen has never painted or has she ever wanted to.

I didn’t want to disappoint her but I told her it would be months before I could get to it. I was hesitant to suggest that she try to do it herself as I pictured her spilling and splattering paint on the new bedroom furniture and carpeting. Remember this would be her first time attempting to paint a room. I knew it would probably cost me more time in redoing the job and clean up than doing it myself but it was time for her to take the plunge of doing it herself. We talked about the possibility of her trying to paint the room and she said she was ready for the challenge of painting the room. I suggested that maybe she could take a few vacation days this summer and try to do it herself.

I would help by getting all the paint and supplies that was needed and would explain how she should paint the room. This was agreed and I went to the home center to pick up paint brushes, rollers, painters tape, drop cloths and supplies needed to protect the room. I already had extension poles for the roller that she could use so she wouldn’t have to up and down the ladder so many times. I kept thinking of how could I make this easier for her to do and I saw this EZ Twist paint roller system in the store. I took a look at it and thought maybe this would be good for her to use because the extension handle holds the paint in it so you don’t have to keep dipping the roller into a paint tray and dripping it all over. I purchased the EZ Twist roller and brought everything home. I told Karen that before she plans to start I would go over the steps she would have to for painting.

The next week was when she planned to take a few days off of work to paint the room. On the first day of her vacation she decided on her own to start the painting. I didn’t know she was going to start that day and I never explained on how to prep the room, mask, protect with drop cloths or how to use the paint roller. Regardless, she was determined to get the room painted by herself in one day. I got home from work late that night and Karen surprised me by telling me that she painted the bedroom today and wanted to show me.

It was late and I had pictured in my mind expecting to find a paint mess all over. When I walked into the bedroom what I saw was the complete opposite of what I figured, the room was completely painted and cleaned up- with no mess! The walls looked good and there were no heavy paint lap marks as I expected. The other thing that surprised me was no paint splattered on the furniture of spills on the carpet. I must say the room looked real good and she painted like an experienced do it yourselfer.

On her own, she covered the furniture and floor with drop cloths then used the new EZ Twist paint roller system to apply the paint to the walls and ceiling. I never showed her how to use the roller or how to fill the ez twist handle with paint, she just read and followed the instructions.

Karen said it was a little slow to getting started to get used to how the roller worked but it was very easy to apply the paint on the walls and ceiling evenly. After the first coat the second coat went on much easier and faster. She was proud of herself and now knows how to paint a room. This worked out great for me too as from now I don’t have to do all the painting around the house myself any more. Her next project is to paint the kitchen.
